Cheap places to stay in El Chaltén: hostels, campsites and paying less

El Chaltén is a small town, busy in summer, with almost everything brought in from far away: properly cheap, it is not. But between picking the right kind of place, the right time of year and where you book, the difference can be big. This is what we see across the 34 places with direct booking we have listed.

Hostels: a bed in a shared room

It is the cheapest option with a roof and a kitchen. Right now we have 13 hostels with direct booking in El Chaltén; several also have private rooms, which cost less than an inn. Campsites

There are campsites in town, but none of them has its own website you can book on yet, so we do not list them. If you are going to camp, think about the wind and the cold at night, even in summer.

Apartments and cabins if there are several of you

Pick your season well

Prices follow occupancy. In the 2025-2026 season the town council measured 67 % average occupancy, with peaks close to 90 % in January and February. In October, November and April there is more room and prices are usually better; from May to September, much more, although several places close. The weather month by month is in best time to visit El Chaltén.

Book on their website

When you book through a platform, the place pays it a commission of around 15 %. On its own website it does not, and many pass that on to you in the price: that is why on Booking Directo we ask every place to have its best rate there. Before you pay, compare: is it cheaper to book direct?
