North end of town, by the Fitz Roy trail

This is the side of town where the trail to Laguna Capri, the Fitz Roy viewpoint and Laguna de los Tres begins. If you plan to start hiking early, it is the most convenient zone: you walk out of your lodging and in a few minutes you are on the trail.

Near the Laguna Torre trail

West of the center is where the trail to Laguna Torre and the Cerro Torre viewpoint starts. It is well placed for that trail and a few blocks from the main avenue.

Town entrance, near the bus station

It is the first thing you reach when you arrive by bus from El Calafate. You get off and walk a few minutes to your lodging. The trails are a bit farther, a 20 to 30 minute walk.

Downtown El Chaltén

It depends on what you plan to do. To hike to Fitz Roy and Laguna de los Tres, the north end of town: there are 6 lodgings 10 minutes or less from the trailhead. If you arrive and leave by bus, the town entrance, near the bus station. The town is small: from anywhere you can walk to everything.

How long is the walk to the Fitz Roy trail?

From the north end of town, under 10 minutes. From downtown, 15 to 20. From the bus station, about half an hour. Each lodging shows its estimated walking time.
